01Overview

Tesamorelin is a stabilised analog of growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). It prompts the pituitary to release growth hormone.

The FDA-approved tesamorelin product is indicated only to reduce excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy; this compounded version is not that product. Your physician decides whether it is right for you and sets the dose.

07Safety

Important safety information

Compounded tesamorelin is not FDA-approved for any use, and its safety and effectiveness in people have not been established. The FDA-approved tesamorelin product is indicated only for excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy; this is not that product. Growth-hormone secretagogues can cause fluid retention, joint pain, tingling and higher blood sugar.

Possible side effects include redness, swelling, itching or pain where it is injected, and allergic reactions. Not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Tell your physician about every condition and medicine before starting, and report any new symptom.

Compounded medications are prepared by state-licensed pharmacies for individual patients. They are not FDA-approved and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness or quality. This page is general information and does not replace a consultation with a licensed physician, who decides whether a treatment is appropriate for you.
